- Confirmed chartered on 12/11/1849. Whereas, a Dispensation was issued by the M. W. Grand Master, to authorise the opening a Lodge at Philippi, Barbour county, by the name of Bigelow Lodge, and appointing John S. Carlile, Master; Thomas B. Curtis, Senior Warden, and Benjamin F. Lewis, Junior Warden; and said dispensation being returned, together with the necessary documents; Resolved, That a Charter do issue for the permanent establishment of said Lodge, by the name, title, and designation of Bigelow Lodge, No. 28, appointing the officers named in the dispensation, upon the payment of the usual fees, when they shall furnish the recommendation of the Lodge nearest their proposed locality.
